For decades, auctions were considered a place to “Liquidate” assets; they were pretty much the last resort for unwanted merchandise to be sold. Most companies would just put a sticker on the items and stick them into a room with no rhyme or reason, selling them to the highest bidder regardless of how cheap. Some auctioneers would try dirty tactics to get the items to sell higher and eventually gave the industry a bad name.
Within the past 10 years or so, companies have experimented with more detailed inventorying, more strategic set-up, and more attention to lot order. This increased the prices and decreased the need for dirty tactics. Once the internet started to become bigger and bigger, companies started to realize that putting assets online for bidding opened up their company to a much broader audience!
Now, auctions are starting to see prices that rival retail stores. Moving product quickly and efficiently and getting fair market value. More and more people are going to auctions and more and more retailers and companies are moving product through auctions on a regular basis.
